I read with alarm the report in today’s Poughkeepsie Journal about the possibility that IBM might sell the chip manufacturing operation in East Fishkill to GlobalFoundries, one of Big Blue’s chip making partners.  If the deal goes through it could mean that IBM East Fishkill would be closed and thousands of local jobs would be lost.  At this point, the talk of a sale is speculation by a well-respected technology industry analysis firm.  However, the possibility must be taken very seriously given the massive nature of the potential job loss.
